NeSPA SC2 Open – Swiss Rounds!

April 19, 2012 in News, Reports

Wednesday night marked the start of the second NeSPA StarCraft 2 Open beginning with the first three Swiss Rounds for bracket seeding. Matches were streamed and cast by C0ffeebreak, Sleepercells, GwinCraft, and PiXie on both twitch.tv/ne_esports and twitch.tv/gwincraft. The night started out with hallmark matches between Yombonski vs Bannon and oMgZues vs Roachgelion. The latter was notable mainly as a rematch between two friendly rivals from the first NeSPA SC2 Open, in which the Kansan Zerg, Roachgelion, triumphed over oMgZues 2-1. This wouldn’t be a notable series had it not inspired a two-month break from the game by former NeSPA staff member, oMgZues. As luck would have it, oMgZues and Roachgelion faced off again in the Swiss rounds of the second NeSPA SC2 Open, finally giving us the much anticipated rematch. Roachgelion took the series in commanding fashion, making the rematch seem not quite worth the hype…unless if you consider a rage-inspired uninstall of SC2 worth the hype. You can’t say NeSPA tournaments lack drama! Read the rest of this entry →

Nebraska eSports Needs You!

March 22, 2012 in About Us, News

Scott Barrett / LINCOLN, NE — We started the Nebraska eSports Association last August 2010 as a bunch of students at UNL to fill the gap of competitive gaming events in our local community and the Midwest region at large.  Since our incorporation we’ve hosted several tournaments for games like StarCraft 2, Super Street Fighter 4, League of Legends, Halo, Call of Duty, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.  We also revived the UNL Electronic Gaming Club, and helped host numerous LAN parties and social gatherings to bring the local gaming community together.  We’re very pleased to say that the first 6-8 months of NeSPA’s existence have been a great success and we are working to ensure that trend continues.  However, in order for the continued growth of NeSPA and the competitive gaming community in the Midwest, we need your help.

We are a 100% volunteer run organization comprised mostly of full or part-time students.  Being a new organization, our numbers are few, which currently limits amount of eSports related work NeSPA is able to do in a short period of time.  This includes the organization of events, running of tournaments, management of the website, production of online content, securing of sponsorships, graphic design and everything else that goes into running NeSPA. In order to meet the demands of the Midwest gaming community, we simply need more hands in order to do everything that we would like.  We would like to host more tournaments, for more games, in more places, with more participants.  We would like to feature more streamers and bloggers.  We would like to attend and report on more eSports related events in the region. We would like to contact more companies about sponsoring events and promoting the growth of eSports. We would like to give away more in prizes.  In order to do this, we need more volunteers.
